The Missus

The Campbells

In case any of you have been wondering why I’ve been a wee bit quiet over the past week or two it’s because, I was putting together a wedding. Mr. Dave Campbell and I threw caution (and the stress of planning and scheduling) to the wind and eloped over the weekend! We were married by candlelight in a wine cave at a Calastoga, CA winery on Friday, the anniversary of the day we met. We walked down the aisle together, to Muse’s song “Blackout” and danced to “Love is a Place” by Metric. We sipped champagne, visited the Beringer Vineyard in Napa Valley and stayed for a couple of days at the lovely, Indian Springs Spa where we indulged in massages and mineral baths. Our witness was the photographer and the ceremony was offciated by the flamboyantly fabulous Rev. Blane (seen below flashing “jazz hands” with me), who managed to personalize the event so much that he even included my love/Dave’s hate for Diet Coke.

After that we headed south to San Francisco where we spent a couple of honeymoon days at the swanky W Hotel while shopping, eating amazing food, hanging out at a pub with a bunch of Irish dudes (seen below with us from L-R: Mick #1, Darren, and Mick #2) and for the first time in years, not even checking e-mail. The whole experience was amazing, romantic and for us, absolutely perfect.

As soon as we can figure out a place to hold it (Texas heat makes venue choices difficult), we’ll throw a celebratory party. We can’t wait!

And that folks, is all she wrote!

xo,
Vickie

Wow everyone, thank you so much for the well wishes. I really appreciate it!

Maybe it’s because so much of my life is public that I loved having this be so private but man, eloping’s awesome! 🙂

Isela–Your name came up at the winery because the woman working there was from your hood and has a friend who owns a yarn store in Salt Lake. 🙂

  14. Kim

Congrats. We did the eloping thing also at a Renaissance Faire. Me, my hubby to be, in a garden at the faire.

  15. Carrie S.

Congratulations Vickie! Wow – what fun, and good for you for throwing caution to the wind! If I had to do it over again, that would be the way! Yay Missus!

COngrats to you both! An what a great idea! No better way to celebrate your love for one another thatn to do it alone with no family or friends to horn in on your happpiness. WIsh I had thought of that!

  19. Eleni

Major congratulations. And just so you know, I am COMPLETELY and utterly mortified that you read my little blog and I hope that I in no real way offended you because I worship at the altar that is Vickie Howell.

  20. Scoutj

I thought I left a comment earlier but it didn’t go through!

Anyway, that’s the way to do it girl! I’ve never once had regrets on eloping. And damn, I’ve already been married for almost 14 years!

    Totally nervous for my show…..

  21. Beth York

Congratulations! I hope the boys are excited, too.
We love your show and feel like we know you a bit because you let so much of your personality shine through. Thanks to you, my daughter and I knit together all the time. She is already designing her own pieces at the age of 10 and we’re beginning to think we need to put together a website for her!
Best wishes for a long life filled with knitting, rock and happiness!

  22. Lynn

WTG Vicki!! No muss no fuss!! The best kind of wedding to have! My son and his wife did the same thing. Congratulations and many many years of wonderful married bliss…and many children too!!

  23. Vickie Howell

Eleni- Totally don’t worry about it! I saw your parenthetical and knew you weren’t being mean spirited. Besides, I wasn’t kidding that I agreed. 🙂
On a side note though, I don’t think in general realize that most, if not all stuff written on blogs is captured by Google alerts so there’s always a chance that if you write about someone, it may be delivered directly to his/her inbox and he/she may end up reading it.
The internet is a crazy thing. 😉

Beth-I love hearing about kid designers–that’s so great! We had an 11 year old on the show who sold enough of her pieces to pay for a violin! Very cool. Anyway, tell your daughter I’m proud of her!

Scout–Your show will be awesome. Have a drink, you’ll feel better. 😉

  24. KeanaLee

My husband & I got married at a PA winery this past July, it was awesome. You two are going to have some Irish looking kids, that’s for sure!

  25. Eleni

Glad I didn’t offend you, and believe me, I’m still watching! The kids are in bed so I’m off to watch DVRed episodes after I dye some yarn. Knit on! BTW, the Peeps wreath rocks. Cause you know Peeps last forever . . . and ever . . . and ever.

  26. Sarah

Wow! Congratulations! Sounds like y’all had a great time! Love those “jazz hands”!

  27. Vickie Howell

Keanalee–LOL. I know. We’re such a pale couple that I always joke when/if we have a baby, I’ll just give birth to a ray of light.

  28. Lolly

That’s great! Congrats Vickie! We were in Napa Valley last fall, and I think it is the perfect place to get married. We went to Beringer too 😉

  29. Tracey
