Wendy Bernard, Author of Japanese Stitches Unraveled
This week on the show Vickie’s guest is knitting author, Wendy Bernard. Her book, Japanese Stitches Unraveled is out on stands now.
Even though Wendy and Vickie work in the same industry genre, they somehow had never directly crossed paths before the conversation for this podcast. During their chat, they discussed the impetus for her career change, her life as a working mom, and why she enjoys the book writing process so much. Listen now!
This episode is sponsored by Penguin Random House Audio. They’ve curated a great list of audiobook titles just for us makers. Check them out here. While you’re there, download a FREE copy of Ivy and Inky the Butterfly, by Johanna Basford.
Wendy Bernard is a knitwear designer based in Southern California. Since the publication of her first book, Custom Knits, she has authored five other books: Custom Knits 2, Custom Knits Accessories, The Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary, The Knitting All Around Stitch Dictionary (Stewart, Tabori & Chang 2008 – 2014), and Japanese Stitches Unraveled (Abrams, 2018).
Starting as a knit blogger in 2005, her blog, Knit and Tonic, garnered a large audience which spurred Wendy to write books talking about top-down knitting techniques, knitting in the round, and customizing knit patterns to suit individual tastes, styles and body type.
Her knitwear patterns have been published online by Knitty, Stitch Diva Studios, Blue Sky Alpacas, and in several edited books and magazines, among them: Interweave Knits, Knitscene, in the books No Sheep for You, My Grandmothers Knitting, and several others.
