#54 Amy Small, Knit Collage

Amy Small on the CRAFT*ish Podcast with Vickie Howell

Amy Small, Knit Collage

This week’s conversation is with the founder of Knit Collage, Amy Small. Vickie and Amy focused their chat on the work Amy’s done to build a sustainable structure of employment for a co-op of women in India who produce the uniquely gorgeous, handspun yarns that Amy’s company is known for. Amy’s heart and talents know no bounds and Vickie’s honored to call her a friend.

This interview is the audio that would later be adapted into a feature on Amy and her co-op for the Community chapter of Vickie’s forthcoming book: The Knit Vibe: A Knitter’s Guide to Creativity, Community, and Well-being for the Mind, Body & Soul.

Since it’s International Women’s Month, it just felt like the right time to highlight Amy’s work.

SHOW NOTES

Bio:

Knit Collage began when Amy fell in love with hand spinning long ago. From that time on, creating a business that meshed with this creative passion became an obsession.  The company began when on the advice of a yarn store owner, Amy decided to take her first yarn collection (Gypsy Garden) to an industry tradeshow. A few shops bought them and boom, she had a business!

At the heart of Amy’s business and her own podcast, is this idea that it’s important to lean into all the things that make us weird or set us apart, all of those interests that others might not get. Amy believes these are our secret weapons, they make us unique and that they become our superpowers!
