Peacock Scarf–January’s Free Pattern of the Month!
Peacock
Extra Wide Mock Cable Scarf
In my infinite wisdom I packed no less than 12 pairs of shoes for my trip to shoot Knitty Gritty but neglected to pack even 1 coat. The weather was rainy in Burbank last month and the studio, a wee bit chilly. This scarf was my B/F/F for those three weeks away from home. It’s extra wide and long, which makes it perfect for winter weather. The Eyelet mock-cable rib, combined with Noro’s amazing colorway produces something vaguely peacock feather looking. Pretty + practical = good stuff!

Vickie, finding you on HGTV was the best New Year’s gift: to rediscover knitting. And YOU are an absolute delight! Your energy, passion and joy in life is contagious in the best possible way. There are thousands of folks like me out here in TV land who are thrilled with you and your show on HGTV. Please, Network, keep Vickie on the air!
I’m a newbie and I found this blog by accident (someone posted it on a group that I just joined a few days ago b/c she wanted to show your scarf). I can’t believe that I found YOUR blog!!! I watch your show almost every day, and feel deprived if I have to miss it! I can’t do much that you show, but I have high hopes!
LOVE this scarf! I plan on knitting is as a Christmas present for my sister. Does anyone have any idea what color number is being used? Any help would be great! Thanks!

I don’t understand the above four rows as you have them before the CO. When do you do these rows? Sorry to be dumb!
This will make a great Christmas gift from the heart. Thanks!
This pattern is great! Thank you! I’m working on a scarf using the pattern, and it’s really simple and fairly fast.
Thanks, glad you like it!
I am with Audrey. Do we use the first set of directions before the cast-on at any point?
Nope, that’s just the explanation of stitch pattern. Start with the CO directions. 🙂
This is a beautiful pattern and I love the cable look. But I was also a bit confused by the directions. I have been knitting a long time yet still didn’t realize that the knit pattern explanation was not really the pattern to follow. I did the cast on, knit rows, and then began the pattern with the instructions yet I thought the 4 rows of the pattern stitch were actually the beginning of the pattern… anyway, don’t feel bad Audrey. I took mine out and started again from the pattern stitches when I realized it wasn’t coming out right! Sometimes we learn more by our mistakes. 🙂
