This week, I’m headed off to the very first, Vogue Knitting Live conference. I’m really looking forward to it, especially because it’s the first time ever that I’ll be taking (not teaching) formal knitting classes. I can’t wait! I’ve been wanting to soak up some knowledge from the brilliant, knitting master, Mari Lynn Patrick for years. Now’s my chance, in one of her advanced design courses! I’ll also be basking in the light that is Debbie Bliss’s, Traveling Cable class. Woohoo!
When I’m not learnin’, I’ll be teachin’. Well, in the form of serving up some knitty advice, that is. I’ll be helping my friend & VK patterns editor, Lori Steinberg, answer your knitting/crochet questions at the VK Live Pro Bar. If you’re stuck on a project, are having difficulties with a pattern, or just want to say “hi”, stop by the bar on Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm to see me!
But wait, I got ahead of myself. First off, begin the weekend’s festivities at a VK Live adjacent event! I’ll heart you forever, if you grab a cab and come to the Needle Arts book signing evening, at Barnes & Noble in Manhattan.
Join me–along with Yarn Harlot, Debbie Bliss, Nicky Epstein, Debbie Macomber & Iris Shrier– at 7pm this Thursday. We’ll all be there to chat, sign books, answer questions, whateva.
I’m also THRILLED to announce that my writing partner in crime, Adrienne Armstrong, will be there too signing our book, AwareKnits. This is her first book signing ever (she’s been on the road since our book came out, helping promote her hubby’s latest cd), so please come on out and show her a little love–she’s a delight, I tell you!
Hope to see you this weekend!
Stitch.Rock.Love,
Vickie
Psst…I’ll also be Tweeting live from the show, so be sure to follow @VickieHowell.
I am devastated by the loss of @hillcountryweavers founder, Susanne Middlebrooks.
I wrote a longer tribute to her on my blog and Facebook (links in bio). In short, though, she had been sick for a long time but had been a master at not letting the illness get in the way of her living. So, it was often unimaginable that she wouldn't be with us for longer. Last June during an industry convention in Chicago when Susanne came over to the bar booth I was sitting at and plopped herself next to me to chat, I had no idea that it would be the last time I'd get to see her. I'm so thankful though, that when we parted ways to go back to our respective meetings, it was with a hug. Rest in purls, my friend....
When I came across this Knitting Needle Patent greeting card by @patentpress , I couldn’t resist selecting it as one of the items for the YarnYAY! September box! (Link in @vickiehowell bio or got to YarnYAY.com)
What looks like part circular knitting needle, part Tunisian crochet hook is illustrated as the patent drawing for flexible knitting needles. This greeting card memorializes the creation of tools that we stitchers can now, not do without!...
The sample yarn for both palettes of this year’s 12 Days of YAY! Advent Box have arrived. I cannot wait for stitchers to open up a new color everyday!
I don’t want to spoil the shade surprises, but I can share just how much yarn we’re sending you this year — FIFTEEN mini hanks of beautifully hand dyed yarn, by two rad boss-lady dyers.
Historically, we have sold out of these so I’d you’re prone to FOMO, be sure to pre-order tour 12 Days of YAY!
Nineteen years into this knitting career, it’s crazy-pants that I’ve never had Learn to Knit or Learn to Crochet kits before. So, I finally made it happen. If you know someone, or ARE someone that wants to learn — while also making something wearable— check out our new hats and scarves kits in the YarnYAY! Shop!
“VK Live” should = “Vickie Knits Live!”
Don’t know if Vogue would take suggestion on that one though…
How fun to go take a class for a change! I wish I was closer so I could stop by!
Sounds great – have fun!
