Hello, Los Angeles (or approximately 400 miles north of it)!
Top o’ the Wednesday morning to you! I mentioned earlier that I was going to be hanging out at Stitches West in Santa Clara, CA (Feb 22-24), but in my cedar-fever-induced-allergy medication-fog it’s possible, that I was a tad vague on the details. So my knitties, here’s the skinny!
Partnered with SWTC and fashion advisor Lena Walker Smith, I’ll be giving a “How to wear it” type presentation showing how the same garment can be worn successfully by completely different types of women with the help of foundation pieces and accessories.
Taking place on February 22nd at 11:45am, there’ll be munchies, time for us to chat and loads of yarn to fondle.
Courtesy of Sterling Publishing and as a special Stitches West treat, those who attend my little event will also receive a preview pattern from my not-yet-released book, Catwalk Crochet. The Stevie (AKA Arcade Fire Coat) coat seen below is crocheted from VHC Vegas yarn and is a great piece for defining an outfit or just throwing on for a cozy, beach stroll (gawdy gold belt, not required).
But wait, there’s more! The first 50 people to buy a ticket in the next 3 minutes (or week ;)), will receive a FREE ball of VHC Rock yarn. All you have to do is e-mail your ticket receipt to: info@soysilk.com and a little bundle of hemp/wool/Soysilk goodness will be on its way into your hot little hands (while supplies last).
So, to recap: Style inspiration, insider scoop on Knitty Gritty, Knit Aid, CRL and Catwalk Crochet, free pre-view pattern that will only be released to attendees of this one event (before book publication in late ’08), munchies AND possible free yarn. All that for the bargain price of $15!
Click here for purchasing details. This is the first Stitches I’ve been to in 3 years, so I’m really looking forward to it. Hope to meet you there!
Yea! I’m very likely to be there. I was planning to attend the Stitches market on Friday but if you’re going to be around I may have to stop by there too!
I’m hoping to get to Stitches too but sadly won’t make the Friday! Will you still be around the rest of the weekend? I’d love to have a chance to meet you!
I wish I could be there and meet you in person, Vicki! Someday I will though. I am so excited that my scarf design is in this book, and I can’t wait till it comes out!

I am devastated by the loss of @hillcountryweavers founder, Susanne Middlebrooks.
I wrote a longer tribute to her on my blog and Facebook (links in bio). In short, though, she had been sick for a long time but had been a master at not letting the illness get in the way of her living. So, it was often unimaginable that she wouldn't be with us for longer. Last June during an industry convention in Chicago when Susanne came over to the bar booth I was sitting at and plopped herself next to me to chat, I had no idea that it would be the last time I'd get to see her. I'm so thankful though, that when we parted ways to go back to our respective meetings, it was with a hug. Rest in purls, my friend....
When I came across this Knitting Needle Patent greeting card by @patentpress , I couldn’t resist selecting it as one of the items for the YarnYAY! September box! (Link in @vickiehowell bio or got to YarnYAY.com)
What looks like part circular knitting needle, part Tunisian crochet hook is illustrated as the patent drawing for flexible knitting needles. This greeting card memorializes the creation of tools that we stitchers can now, not do without!...
The sample yarn for both palettes of this year’s 12 Days of YAY! Advent Box have arrived. I cannot wait for stitchers to open up a new color everyday!
I don’t want to spoil the shade surprises, but I can share just how much yarn we’re sending you this year — FIFTEEN mini hanks of beautifully hand dyed yarn, by two rad boss-lady dyers.
Historically, we have sold out of these so I’d you’re prone to FOMO, be sure to pre-order tour 12 Days of YAY!
Nineteen years into this knitting career, it’s crazy-pants that I’ve never had Learn to Knit or Learn to Crochet kits before. So, I finally made it happen. If you know someone, or ARE someone that wants to learn — while also making something wearable— check out our new hats and scarves kits in the YarnYAY! Shop!

The jacket is super cute–love the hood! Unfortunately I’m an East Coaster, so I’ll just have to wait for the book to come out. 🙂
Your hair is adorable pulled back!
