“VH: You mentioned a former career in Silicon Valley. What did you do?
TB: I started in graphic design, which was my degree, then worked my way through the marketing department. My last job was director of marketing for a software company. I always say that I wouldn’t take it back, because it was great training in the business and marketing world.
VH: How would you say that your marketing experience helped in your current career?
TB: I think, tremendously. Marketing is the difference between not being successful and being successful. A lot of artists don’t take the time to really put their name out there and market themselves. That’s one thing I learned working in Silicon Valley that really helped me: if you want to be successful, it’s all about making your name visible. It’s the same principal in the art world as it is with a Fortune 500 company–you have to be talented and have a good product, but it’s important to market it well.”
