Bernat (Not Just for) Baby Blanket

The last time I visited the Bernat offices the Baby Blanket Puffy Baby Blanket was being passed around the design table. It was so ridiculously soft and comfy that I really wanted to make one for my youngest son. The challenge? Well, at 11-years-old, he’s not a baby. Thankfully though, even though the word “baby” is in the yarn’s name, there are a few colors in the collection that will work for any age. I chose Baby Sand and Little Sand Castles (currently available on end caps at Jo-ann stores) — see below for results!
I love the way that color and size can completely change the age specs and look of a project — you’d never know this pattern was originally designed with infants in mind! For this version I chained 67 (64 + 3 which counts as the first DC)then followed the pattern as-is for the rest of the blanket. For the edging, I opted for half-double crochet.
I’m happy to report, that my kiddo digs his Puffy Pre-Teen Blanket. Oh, and even though he’s not a baby anymore, he’ll always be mine. 🙂
xx,
Vickie

That is so awesome! I’ve adapted giant afghan patterns into baby blankets, but I love the idea of doing the opposite. I’m in the middle of a bunch of projects, but I want to drop everything and make myself a cozy blanket. Right NOW. Thanks for the idea!

    Hello,

I love this blanket, however, when I click on the link for the pattern, it says that the link is no longer available. Do you have a video making it or the pattern available to post on this thread or email?

    Thank you in advance,

    Karina

You all will be glad to know that now Bernat has a new line just called Bernat Blanket. It is the same type of yarn the the Baby Blanket but with more all age colors.

I am looking for bernat soft yarn in black and red. Does someone know what store would have those two colors.

If you mean Bernat Blanket (or Baby Blanket) yarn as used in this project, unfortunately it doesn’t come in either of those two colors. Sorry!

Hi there, I am just wondering what your measurments for the finished size of the blanket are? I just ordered 6 big balls (300g) of the bernat baby blanket and i want to make my daughter a pretty substantially sized blanket for her bed, how many balls did you end up using? thanks!

Well it should be available in every color there is. This stuff is so easy to work with and I love it. I have made blankets for all of my grandkids but, I have a new one coming soon and Mom & Dad want Charcoal, Black and Dark Red. Yikes!! I can’t find those colors.

I absolutely love this. I’ve been looking for pattern with this yarn for my 14 year old. Yours is beautiful! Do you have info where I can find the pattern? The link above goes to an error page.

Oh! Should went google digging first I found it :). May I ask how many balls of Bernat yours used? The amount has always deterred me from making even a baby blanket in the past.

    • Vickie Howell

I think I used about a dozen balls. Now, though they sell the ginormous balls at JoAnn, so you could probably get away with 4 or so of those, I’d guess.

This link does not work. Is there another place to find the pattern?

Hi I really like this blanket… GREAT job! I was wondering what the pattern was for the color switching…. How many rows brown, how many rows mulit, how many rows brown etc… Thanks in advance!

I was wondering the multiples of the chain if we were wanting to make a bigger size blanket? My mom wanted me to make her one but I’m not sure how to do a bigger size.
