Peeks & Waves Knit Pillow
With Mother’s Day coming up, it’s time to start working on quick, but thoughtful gifts for mom. For this pillow cover, you need only to knit one piece and attach it to an existing pillow, letting its color peek through the front while the back remains uninterrupted.
Peeks & Waves Pillow
Materials
1 Ball each of 3 Colors of Sport-Weight Bamboo, Cotton, or Rayon Yarn
US Size 9 Needles
Tapestry Needle
Black 19”x19” Pillow (I found mine at Target)
Black Thread
Sewing Needle
Sewing Pins
Finished Measurement
Approx 19”x19”
Wavy Pattern Stitch
Rows 1-2: Knit all sts.
Row 3: K 6, *YO, K1, YO2, K1, YO3, K1, YO2, K1, YO, K6. Repeat from * to end
Row 4: Knit all knit sts, drop all YOs.
Rows 5-6: Knit all sts.
Row 7: K1, *YO, K1, YO2, K1, YO3, K1, YO2, K1, YO, K6. Repeat to last 5 sts. YO, K1, YO2, K1, YO3, K1, YO2, K1, YO, K1.
Row 8: Repeat row 4.
Directions
With Jack & Sally, CO 65 sts. Work 8 rows in Wavy Pattern Stitch.
Join and switch to Ennis & Jack. Work 8 rows in Wavy Pattern Stitch.
Join and switch to Joel & Clementine. Work 8 rows in Wavy Pattern Stitch.
Continue established 3 color stripe pattern (24 rows), twice more.
Join and switch to Jack & Sally. Work 8 rows in Wavy Pattern Stitch.
Bind off.
Finishing
Pin finished piece onto front of pillow. Using sewing needle, thread and small stitches, attach knitted piece to pillow by tacking on

Love the look of the this pillow! It would look so good in my daughter’s room. The only problem is that there are no retails store in Minneapolis,MN (which I’m really disappointed to find out) that carries your yarn. Is it possible to buy it online?

Melissa, I agree! As I was knitting I was thinking the same thing. It drapes really nicely. Vickie I tried posting on your previous blog entry.
This past weekend I bought shorter needles and thicker yarn. Watched you links you gave me…I am computerwheelie on myspace. Somehow I just caught on.
The shorter needles work for me because they don’t get caught in my vent tube. As I progress (hopefully so) will I necessarily need to get longer needles????
I am addicted to knitting now and so is my friend. She left today with yarn and a pair of needles.

I Love you for getting me back interested in knitting,my dad was the first when i was 8 yrs old and he bought me some yarn and needles kit the yarn was brown and chunky and I made a very long scarf hey i was only 8..lol I love your show and I love you for making it so easy to understand. Now my 7 yr old daughter wants too learn any suggestions on how too get her started? is it better for her too use big needles or smaller ones? Help!

Kimmee- I suggest using size 8-9 short needles for teaching children. Melanie Falick wrote a great knitting book for kids called appropriately enough, Kids Knitting. It’s got instruction, cute, easy projects and even a little poem to help children remember the steps of a knit stitch. Hope that helps!

I just wanted to let you know that there is one correction to the pattern you should make. The cast on needs to be 66 stitches, not 65!
