I remember telling an art teacher once in like 10th grade that I could never see art as an occupation as having purpose and that I wanted to be something important, like a CEO of some huge company or something. Boy was I wrong! I find it funny that after dabbling in all genres of art for years that I finally quit my corporate job and just make art and indie crafts for a living now. I wonder how many times I would have to hear “I told you so” from that teacher now! I not only live a creative life but I am now that advocate that she once was to me, to other folks by encouraging them to get creative in whatever way possible and hosting events that provide that outlet for folks to be encouraged in their creative endeavors.

We first met seven years ago on an art course in Canterbury. Here we discovered we shared the same two life long dreams, firstly to design and make dolls and other curious things that make the human race a happier one, and secondly to take the world by storm with our super free-style Morris dancing routine. So we travelled to London to pursue our ambitions. We enrolled at the London College of Communication where we made ourselves cleverer. Once we had graduated we were lost and jobless in the big bad world, after much idle chitchat, lots of cups of tea and cake we came up with the idea of honk EUREKA! Now we spend most of our days drawing, sewing and playing with paint and ink, hooray! The Morris dancing is something yet to be accomplished, watch this space….

Profession: Self-Taught Artist, Preschool Teacher

Craft(s) of Choice: Drawing, Digital Art, Paper Arts, Mixed Media, Painting

Blog: http://pholkartblessings.blogspot.com/

I’m a self-taught artist who LOVES creating colorful illustrations and whimsical childrens’ art! I specialize in creating Digital Stamps for
Papercrafting, which I offer in my Etsy shop, PHOLKART*BLESSINGS.

I work during the school year in a preschool as a teacher’s assistant… Last year I had a great time with 3 year olds, especially enjoying their music & art-making! In the summer months, I “put on my Artist’s Hat” & work on new digi stamp designs for my small-but-growing Etsy shop. My “studio buddy” is our rescued black lab, Winnie, who is super-sweet & laid back. :)

I actually didn’t begin drawing ’til my oldest son went to preschool (I was 28 at the time). He HATED Lunch Bunch, so I started doodling little pictures to put in his lunch box each day. I don’t honestly know if that helped him at all, but I fell in LOVE with drawing! I think of my style as a little bit cartooning, a little bit folk art, & a whole lot of color!

Craft(s) of Choice: assemblage/collage/altered art with paper primarily

I have always had to “make it if I wanted it”…but I never considered what I did as valuable until a few years ago when a friend said…..heck yes, Rose….consider yourself an artist or no one else will. I have painted, sewn, pieced, loved, and handled, most craft and art supplies. My favorite will always be, work on canvas…something about the canvas that calls me….but I love my “little books” about as much I guess…oh and my …………

I can’t remember ever not crafting. I remember when I was a kid, my mom (who is not a crafter) would take me to craft shows so I could see all that glorious crafts people made. And then she would buy me stuff to create my own stuff. She still has projects I made when I was a pre-teen and that was a long time ago. Thanks Mom for helping my artistic bend.

Craft(s) of Choice: Paper, paint, sewing

Like many people here I grew up with a two very crafty parents, my mom like sewing and macrame, my father like welding and working with wood. I really started paper crafting after going to a scrapbook store for the first time. I never thought about all the cool things you could make with paper. After I got bored with just paper I started adding paint, inks and fabrics to my art. I am alway looking for something new to try and often inspired by the artist I see here on Craft Corps. So thank you all for keeping me up to my elbows in color.
