I grew up in a household of women that sew obsessively,crochet,do woodwork, and any other type of craft that is popular at the time.. But when it came to me…you couldn’t get me near a sewing machine and I was all thumbs when it came to using a needle. I had no interest in “women’s handiwork” or crafts….then I grew up and realized it was part of my history and a connection with the women who came before me. I studied to become a fine artist and taught art for 12 years until I found my way into doing fiber art. This art form has open so many doors for me and I realized I could use my painting skills to develop fiber art pieces. Also, I became obsessed with seed beads and embroidery thread….which I have not found a self-help group for yet. I have recently started using embroidery as a drawing medium. I love the tactile feel of sewing the threads through the cloth…it is really Zen.
