I’ve always been pretty crafty. Art was my favorite subject in school, but I never considered myself an artist. In high school I made quilts out of old tshirts and sewed dresses out of vintage draperies.

I started scrapbooking in 1998 when a friend showed me her photo album. In 2002, I made a new year’s resolution to learn a new skill. I decided to learn to knit. My grandmother had tried to teach me when I was a little girl, but I just wasn’t very good at sitting still. I signed up for a 4-week class and learned how to knit mittens. From there I was hooked. So much so, that I started PhillyKnitters and KnitSwap on LiveJournal. I also took a part time job at my local yarn shop, The Tangled Web. I worked for yarn and my stash grew! I knitted for family and friends. I knit chemo caps for friends who were fighting cancer and baby blankets for new nephews. Last spring I decided to take a Beginner Quilting class and another new obsession took hold: fabric! I’ve made a few quilts and have acquired fabric for many more! My fabric stash is starting to rival my yarn stash! In April, I attended Donna Downey’s Inspired Artist’s Workshop. I was able to merge all of my hobbies and see how they could compliment one another. It was an amazing experience and gave me permission to call myself an artist.
