I learned to knit 5 years ago when my best friend, Sara, thought it would be a fabulous idea to teach ourselves. When I first picked up the needles it was a way to keep my hands busy and relax. Sara and I would get together to knit and yarn shop multiple times a week. At the time it seemed like nothing more than a hobby. Three years later I moved cross country and was glad to having my knitting to keep me busy in a new town. Shortly after my move I was called back to Michigan because my Mama was dying after a stroke. When Sara arrived at the hospital to sit with me she brought a bag full of yarn, needles and a pattern for me. Without saying anything she had brought me the most comfort that was possible at that time. We knit in silence through the hours at the hospital and then at the funeral home. It was at this point that I realized that knitting is so much more than a hobby.
