Lana & Clark Ascot–February Free Pattern of the Month!

My new yarn line, Vickie Howell Collection, has finally begun to hit stores so I thought it was appropriate for this month’s pattern to be made from one of the yarns, LOVE. This is great quickie project that takes only one hank (approx 90 yds) of this luxurious fiber. I gave the prototype that you see in the picture to Annette O’Toole , when we were shooting Knit Bits together. She was so lovely and supportive that I decided to name the project in honor of her role in the original Superman movies. Wear it as shown or use a vintage button earring or tie pin to wear it as a traditional ascot. It’s cute, quick to make and a great addition to any outfit. Enjoy! xo, Vickie

Okay, my Hubby and I are huge Smallville fans so naturally I LOVE the name for the ascot. Super cute! Also, the KnitIn last night was great. I have three autistic little boys (4,3,and 18mos) so I can hardly ever get them to let me watch Knitty Gritty when their shows are on. It kills cause I love the show!

Thanks for the great pattern! Question – can you please tell me which episode Lisa Loeb was on and if its going to air again? Thanks!

I just bought 8 skeins of Love this weekend. I am sure that one of them will be turned into this ascot. 🙂

Great looking ascot ! question on pattern tho, for the picot edging: is the “CO” cast-on, or cast-off ? if its cast-on, what method do you use. if its cast-off, i’m a little puzzled as to what that means vs Bind-off.

    Thanks :o)

Oh that color purple is so gorgeous!!! I can’t wait to try your new yarns – I really love the fibers that have been selected, and the colors are truly lovely. Please do list any online retailers that you know of who might be carrying your yarns. 🙂

Thanks so much for the Love! This yarn (along with its friends, Craft and Rock) will be in my shop very soon (this week if I’m living really right).
Can’t wait to knit up this sweet piece as a shop sample, and my husband is going to be weaving something yummy with it.
Any plans to come to Alaska?

Divaknitter–we’re working on trying to make episodes downloadable so people can watch the show on their computers. No promises, but we’re trying to make it happen!

Anonymous- CO=cast-on. I usually use the cable method. Just insert your RH needle in between the 1st 2 sts on your LH needle and pulla loop of working yarn through. Place that loop on the LH needle. Repeat as called for. Hope that helps!

Susan–No plans yet to go to Alaska, but I’d love to someday!

Drew– And I, loves me some Drew. 🙂

    Vickie

Wow downloadable episodes would be AWESOME! Now I’m all excited, we just got rid of our extended cable to cut back a little so that would be really cool. hope it works out, good luck!

Purple is my favorite color and the pattern seems very easy for the novice knitter. Is your line available online or certain LYS? I live in a very rural area and my LYS is 90 minutes away. Love the show and you rock.

Howdy Vickie! So riddle me this am i alone in being unable to find the pattern for that cute ruffly scarf thing? The one pictured on the ball band of your lucious new yarns.i travelled all far from manhattan to tarrytown (a not so Local YS) to the only place in new york so far that carries your collection and snatched up 8 hanks of love. The ascot knits up quick and is very chic. Keep the patterns coming. I got a lot more love to knit up

How can I download your pattern, The Ascot?” Do I have to go to a special program? When I hit the file, it didn’t do anything. I am in my 80″s and am not too good on the computer. Joan Miles

Hey there. It’s not actually downloadable; you’d just read it from this post or print the whole window. Hope that helps! 🙂

I think your screen might be doing something funky. It just says 6 1/2″, meaning work in the pattern until the piece measures that. HTH!
