A Call to Yarns
I'm going cruise-azy not having a knitting project to work on while I'm in Knoxville! I left in a hurry for the airport, leaving behind my project bag. I seriously considered taking the 7 mile cab ride to the nearest yarn store yesterday, but decided against it. I really don't do well not having something to knit during my down time. It's beautiful in this part of Tennessee--green, lush and sprawling. Everyone has been so nice and I dig all of the other hosts that are here to shoot the same special. We all have different call times but at one time or another meet downstairs in the hotel restaraunt to hang out together.
When I first arrived, I met the producer Michelle & her hubby as well as Jackie Taylor (Grounds for Improvement) and Andrew Totolos(Tricked Out). Later, Jennifer Perkins (Stylelicious & Craft Lab)walked in with Michelle Breschen (upcoming Be Creative). We all had this awesome goat cheese & tomato fondue appetizer and then some of us walked to Sunspot for dinner.
Yesterday I was picked up at 7:30am and taken to the promo shoot where my lines consisted of "This is MY DIY" and, "Let me just get my trusty..." While Jennifer & Michelle sat in the background pretending to be busy crafting away. Acting at its finest, I tell ya! ;-)
I pretty much had the rest of the day off during most of which I spent watching bad movies on USA until I met up again with several more hosts for drinks (Including Paul Ryan from Kitchen Renovations and Dean Hill from Grounds for Improvement).
Today I'm going to head out to the art museum before my 3:30 call time for a marketing photo shoot.
Gotta run. More later!

Sounds like you missed out on a supreme opportunity to survey the local yarn shops and probably give the LYS owner and other shoppers an unexpected thrill by a surprise meeting with a knitting celeb. But I guess that might be a draw-back - you can't really hide that red hair under a bushel and browse a LYS unnoticed....
OMG, you are in Tennessee!!!! I had no idea you'd come to our area. Take a side trip to Gatlinburgand Cades Cove--very pretty and touristy. This is just so cool, but I am sorry you had no knitting project--kind of throws a person into "withdrawal," I know.

oh come on now! where is this shoot at in knox? there is 2 yarn stores in town here... but the above noter maybe right... you might be spotted and recognized. or if you go to one in particular, you probably wont...that's the one the knitting police operate. LOL, i try not to go in there.
but the other yarn shop is really cute and they are super nice...it's small tho... but nice.
yeah so you can probably tell i live in knox... it's cool that you are here! somewhere....hope it's not too boring for you. ;)
Vickie you're in Knoxville? I live here! I'm sure others have told you, but if you need a knitting project, check out this great new yarn store...Loops! It's off Kingston Pike in Bearden. And then there's Knit N' Purl which is off Cedar Bluff road. I hear there's a great store in Maryville but haven't been there.
Sunspot is awesome!! Try the Tomato Head on Market Square too. Yummy.
Have a great time in my hometown!
Can't wait to see the new promos.
Wow, its so cool to see that Michelle Beschen has made it to DIY after watching her crafty show on the Des Moines station on sunday mornings!
well looks like i'm not the only Tennessean happy to see you here! although I live in Nashville, I say hello, too! :)
.♥.
Man...I think either the cab ride to the LYS or having someone FEDEX your project bag would have been called for! :)
I can't believe you are in my hometown without me! You should have told me and I would have had my sister come pick you up and show you MY K-town. Oh well.
Argh! We should have written a knit bit where the Sun Sphere was a giant ball of gold yarn.
Bev, alas there wasn't time for a side trip (although Jennifer and I were rallying for one to Dollyworld). We had a wonky schedule affected by all of the rain, so we had to stay close to home.
Meredith, I didn;t learn about Loops until the last day of shooting, wich SUCKS because it apparently was only 5 minutes away fromthe hotel so I could've totally taken a taxi. Arrgh. I got desperate though and begged a DIY employee to pull over at a JoAnn's on the way to a photo shoot. I only had about 8 minutes to shop, so I ran in there like a crazy person, grabbed some yarn, paid and ran out. I think I should seek help for my little knitting problem. ;-)
Sparkli, I thought Knoxville was really pretty and suprisingly liberal. It wasweird though how half of downtown was abandoned. Andrew and I started calling the area with all the boarded up beautiful buildings, "the town that didn't live". I did go to a great little modern art museum that had some really progressive photography exhibits--including one that I'd seen featured in BUST Magazine a couple of years ago.
Hanna, Yeah, Michelle's really great. I think her show's going to do well.
