Misty Water Colored
I don't know if you remember me mentioning a couple of months back how I had reconnected (via MySpace)with my teenagehood best guy friend, Karl. He was in business in Vegas while I was there for the CHA convention, so he came to see me at the party that my publisher threw for a few of us knitting authors. We hadn't seen each other in 9 years but as it often goes with old friends, it was like a day hadn't passed. This is a shot from that night. Why am I showing you this you ask? No reason really, except that I came across a few pictures of us from high school so I thought I'd share one of them. This one was taken in '91 when Karl graduated (a year ahead of me) from West High School, in Torrance, California. I think I'm 17 there and yes, that is a perm I have and I really did wear my bangs that way.

In that same box of pictures I found a couple of other unrelated shots that made me smile. People often ask me where my craftiness came from and I always say that I owe that gene to my mom. This picture confirms that fact. My mom used to make a lot of my clothes and more often than not, she'd make matching versions for my dolls. This picture was taken in our front yard in Broomfield, Colorado in the late 70's. Seriously, how cute is my mom?!

Lastly, and I hope this dispells any doubt there might've been about me having a sense of humor about myself, is a picture of me (far right), Sacha (who remains one of my best friends) and the Walters sisters. Why am I wearing spandex, a scarf bow and prom gloves you ask? My, you're fullof questions today. Because, dearies, we were on our way to Madonna's Blonde Ambition concert. Duh! Hey, you gotta give me credit for choosing a look and then comitting to it, right? I think I was around 15ish then, so I'm quite sure that the insanity caused by teenage hormones had somthing to do with this particular ensemble. I have these fantasies that I'm going to meet Maddy some day and make her laugh by giving her things like this picture and the audio tape that I still have of me and Sacha singing our little 11-year-old hearts out to her song, "I Know It". Well, she may not think it's funny but damn, it would entertain the hell outta me.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
xx,
Vickie

Those are freaking hilarious. The funny part? You look damn sassy in each one of those pictures. I didn't know you lived in Broomfield! I lived in Boulder/Louisville/Lafayette for 10 years. Have you been back there recently? You wouldn't recognize it.
Vick, I love your old school pictures! They are HI-larious, and you were a cute teen. I was not so lucky. Miss you!
Priceless.

what doll were you holding? I think i had the same one!

Hi Vicky! Love Knitty Gritty and stumbled across your blog a few days ago.
Those pictures are fab...each and every one! The Madonna one is priceless.
Take care!
Mousse! more mousse!
Freakin hysterical. You have reminded me to burn pics of me trying to look hip going to see Billy Joel- the An Innocent Man tour.
I don't have the thin black tie anymore but I'm pretty sure I'm wearing the same pair of "chucks" I had on then.
p.s. Giesha painting is greabzomwxvt.
Wow, that picture of your mom is so full of love. She is looking at you like your happiness is giving her so much joy.
Nice madonnaness. Pretty funny. Especially that the shirt underneath it is this conservative flowery cotton thing adopted for evil use.
Gee that whole '91 look is suprisingly familiar to me. I wonder why that might be? It is a mystery.
I love this post! I had those sunglases (i think I still have them somewhere)
I thought you were "stylin'" in the highschool picture--you guys don't look much different now.
That is a cute pic of your mom--you resemble her in it.
Bev
How friggin cute are you!!
Two words AQUA NET!!! I still hold a little place in my heart for the 80's and I am proud to say I grew up then! I think I dressed the same way for Bon Jovi!! Fishnets and all!
SCOUT: I haven't been back to Colorado since I was 21--I didn't recognize it then, so I'm sure I wouldn't now. I may go back this year though, to visit my friend who lived two doors down when I was 3 years old. We still keep in touch.
JAG: I miss you too!
JENND: I think that doll was called Rub-a-Dub Dolly, because you could take her in the bath. I'm pretty sure I just called her "Dolly"--I was clever like that. ;-)
DAVE: Will you be my prom date?
HEATHER: Aqua Net. Totally. Even worse, there was also some Depp factored into that hairstyle. I went to Bon Jovi that year too! For that event, I went with the white cowboy boots and green, ripped, saftey pin adorned, tapered spandex jeans.
"ANONYMOUS" aka Kevin: Clearly my hair had calmed WAY down by the time I met you in late '92. I think then, I was going through my Bridgett Fonda circa "Singles" phase.
