Rainy days and Fridays.
It's a rainy morning here in Austin. I was on the way to a 9am Ashtonga class (motivated by how friggin' fantastic Madonna looks at 47, largely thanks to yoga), but turned around at the last minute, deciding that since I'm still having a little pain in my shoulder from Wedesday's class I should probably give my body a break ( I think I may've pulled something while attempting this back bend with my legs bound together with a strap--I still haven't learned how to evenly disperse my weight--and now I'm babbling and need to stop...) Anywhoodles, my guilt was asuaged by the fact that if I had gone to class I would've missed an important, impromptu conference call with the Knit.1 art director and editor. I think we've figured out a solution to the problem of not being able to get me and the next interviewee's schedules to sync up for photography purposes. This is good news for me because it means I won't have to jump on a plane next week. Hooray! In unrelated news, how cute is this? This site tells you what your Japanese name would be. Although I highly doubt its authenticity, who can resist the kitsch factor?!

And speaking of Harajuku girls, did you seen Gwen Stefani at the Grammy's? Lord, she's one adorable pregnant woman! Seriously, she looked so gorgeous in her leopard, empire waist tank/tunic and red lipstick it almost made me sad (for like 1 second) that I probably will never do the whole giving birth thing again. Hey, Gwen, holla! ;-)
On the crafty front, I've recieved a ton of great submissions for Catwalk Crochet and am slowly plowing through them. If you submitted, please give me a a week or two to figure out what's going to work with the overall aesthetic of the book. I think that I have the color palettes worked out for each season, so the next step is to start plugging in designs that'll work within each color theme. I'm really excited about this project and appreciate your patience and willingness to possibly be involved!
I made a wee capelet for my little friend Heide. It looks so beautiful on her that I'm thinking about using a similar variation of it in the book! Check it:
Hey, before I go, can I bug you about something? Thanks. Theoretically, if I were to be coming out with a line of my own products, what is it that you'd most like to see offered? It doesn't just have to be knitting related--think anything from yarn to wall paper. I've got a couple of things in the works, but since you all have sorta become my test group/advisory board, I'd really love to hear your thoughts.
Ok, I have another conference call to jump onto. More later!
xx, Vic

It is so easy to get an injury from yoga; most people don't know that. I haven't taken a class in months, but damn do I miss it!
My Japanese name is Michiko Rokujochigusa - of course, I get a long one!
On man, Gwen at the Grammys! she looked so fantastic, and you could tell that she was just over the moon at the fact that she was finally going to have a baby - yay for her :D
Hmmmm, as far as a line of your own products, of course something crafty-related would be the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe knitting kits, or your own environmentally friendly yarn in funky, natural colors. This is something I'll have to think a bit more about ...
AHHH YOGA!!! I remember those days! I miss it!
As far as your own product line goes if you put anything out I would buy it but if you need ideas I am thinking Vintage...something...clothes, handbags, hats OR knitting kits! Kits that have everything you need in them to do the project! Not sure just dropping thoughts.
Have a great weekend!
Heather
I would like to echo the other comments and say that I would absolutely LOVE knitting kits designed by Miss Vickie herself! And, of course, more knitting books from you and maybe even general crafting books and/or kits. :) And DIY should do us all a favor and release DVD sets of Knitty Gritty (complete with pattern booklet). By the way, received your sticker from Ginger in the mail yesterday - so awesome!
i love the tees you have available - more tees that show that craftsters are fun, smart, brilliant, edgy, hip, cool... (just keep thinking of adjectives that describe you)
And KG box sets - i don't have DIY so my mother-in-law tapes the show and mails it to me!
Hey- we're related! My name is Sumi Aburakoji! HA!
Madonna never stopps serving as a fitness inspiration for me- that woman is in amazing shape. Too bad I missed my yoga class this afternoon. :( Hmm...
As for product ideas, how about some cute & crafty accessories?
Anything fashion oriented!
If it's home stuff it could be things to accessorize your home with - pillows, lamp shades, curtain ties and so forth.
Hey, I'm doing the boots that Tina (Marrin) designed but I'm doing them mostly crochet if you want to take a look.
I prefer Pilates.
I just got my stickers yesterday, I am so excited!
As far as products, I think you should do a knitting how-to dvd or release Knitty Gritty on dvd. Other than that, I can't think of anything. I had a bad morning at work and my head hurts!
Vicki,
Question: what does a knitter crave more than anything else?
Answer: YARN, girl! And since you're a girl who likes the bling, (yarn bling, that is), I say, get your own line of novelty yarns in fun textures and colors.
The possibilities are wide open--I agree with the others about kits--include the yarn, needles, and instructions--but for unusual things. I saw a knitted heart-shaped throw pillow on television done in a novelty yarn--done in unusual colors-cute!!!! Clothes and jewelry are definitely winners, and you've always got such cute stuff on when you do KG. And there is retro stuff for the home--which can flip back to the kits for cushions, throws, lampshades, the sky's the limit!!!
BTW, the capelet is extremely cute.
Yarn, yarn, yarn! I think you'd do a bang-up job with your own yarn line. Also, accessory kits. Give me a knitting (and crocheting) accessory kit with coordinating stitch markers, stitch holders, yarn cutter, needle sizer, bobbins, etc. all in some fab kitschy print pouch -- I am so smokin' the credit card on something like that. I second the knit kits, as well.
I would love to see really cool knitting accessories and knitting needles. Kinda like the ones you showed on the knit bit where you show us how to make our own cool needles using clay. You could have needles with really funky ends, bright colorful retro looking accessory bags and coordinating bags that hold knitting projects and I agree with others - Knitting Project Kits would be cool too!
Can't wait until the Crochet book is on the shelves :) It's so hard to find high couture crochet books. Keep Rockin!
I think any knitting-related stuff would be great--from your own yarn line to kits. However, I'd really love to see you (and your Mafia gals) do a magazine (print or online) focusing on creativity in all areas--home decor, fashion, cool projects, music, jewelry, book reviews, even articles about parenting and raising creative kids!
Hi Vickie,
Yarn is of course the first thing that comes to mind. Also kits, but DVDs of KG would be great! I'd also like to see a line of really great needles and hooks, like Addi Turbos but at a better price; you'd truly undercut the market! Home decor would wow everyone too, I'm thinking.
Gosh, how can you miss with whatever line of products you come up with???
Have a great one,
Patricia :-)
how bout a joke book....
how bout a cat book....
how bout some tea...
how bout an LP with Cyndi Lauper....
there are no limits. very exciting....
Product Line Suggestions: Stationary, pens, pencils, calculators, note pad's. All things we'll use during our 'normal day' that will remind us that we are only a step away from yarn and needles. When bogged down by enormous stash and many many ufo's it would be nice to have a new tidbit to smile about.
Oh yes, I agree with Stac. You should totally do a record with Cyndi Lauper. Really, what are you waiting for?
